Arsenal Football Club have reportedly made an approach to sign Paris St-Germain defender, Emmanuel Mbemba. The move is set to take place this summer and could see the 18-year-old youth-team player join the English champions on a free transfer.
Mbemba, who has been offered a new contract by PSG, is open to moving to a leading Premier League club. The training compensation for his transfer is expected to be just over £150,000 after his contract with PSG expires at the end of June.
Arsenal have already initiated contact and outlined what they could offer the young talent. They referenced William Saliba's progression when he was loaned by Arsenal to Marseille as an example of how they can help develop Mbemba's career.
Why Arsenal?
The French youth international seems inclined towards choosing Arsenal due in part to their recent stability and success under manager Mikel Arteta's leadership. In addition, it was communicated that if he joins Arsenal, he would go out on a European loan until January 2027. This arrangement would allow him ample time to secure a work permit necessary for playing in England.
Although primarily playing as a centre-back in PSG's youth ranks, it appears that Arsenal views him differently. The Gunners see him as a long-term option for left-back position which indicates their confidence in his versatility and potential growth.
Mbemba has shown significant promise early in his career. He recently captained PSG’s under-19 side leading them towards victory at the French Youth Cup held at Stade de France - further testament of his leadership skills and football prowess. This potential move could prove beneficial not only for Mbemba but also for Arsenal who are always looking out for fresh talent capable of bolstering their squad strength. It remains to be seen how this transfer saga unfolds and whether Arsenal can secure the services of this promising young defender.
