Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly received a significant boost in their summer transfer plans. The club is looking to offload several first-team players, and the latest development might just aid them in achieving this goal.
The Spurs have already made commendable progress on the transfer front. Last month, they successfully offloaded Tanguy Ndombele, Japhet Tanganga, Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier and Ivan Perisic on free transfers. Following closely was Joe Rodon who completed a £10 million switch to Leeds United last week with Archie Gray heading to Spurs for £40 million.
Despite these moves, there are still many players at Spurs facing uncertain futures as Ange Postecoglou works towards building a team that reflects his vision.
Al-Nassr pushing for Emerson Royal
One such player is Emerson Royal who has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan recently. The former Serie A champions have been locked in talks with Tottenham over securing Royal's signature this week.
However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, AC Milan may now face increased competition for the full-back’s signature which could potentially drive up his price tag. Jacobs revealed that Al-Nassr from Saudi Arabia has entered the race to sign the Spurs defender. This new development could prove beneficial for Tottenham as it may allow them to negotiate better terms with AC Milan or any other interested party.
Football Journalist, Ben Jacobs, said:
“That one [Royal to Milan] is a possibility, I’m also told that Al-Nassr have entered the race for Emerson as well. That will, I imagine, allow Tottenham to get the price they are looking for.”
Royal wants AC Milan at any cost
Despite interest from Al-Nassr though, it seems that Royal prefers a move to San Siro over one to the Saudi Pro League club. The 25-year-old defender has openly expressed pride at Milan’s interest in him which indicates his preference towards joining them instead of moving elsewhere.
Emerson Royal, Tottenham Hotspur full-back, said:
“Yes, I know Milan asked Spurs about me. I’m proud of that, Milan is an important club. Let’s see what happens with Milan, I’m just happy to know that they are showing interest in me,”
However, this new interest from Al-Nassr can still be seen as positive news for Spurs. With another club showing interest in Emerson Royal, it could potentially convince AC Milan to increase their bid for the Brazilian player. Currently, AC Milan's latest offer is thought to be around £13 million. However, Tottenham is holding out for a higher price tag of £17 million. The entrance of Al-Nassr into the bidding war might just provide the necessary push for AC Milan to meet Tottenham's asking price.
While Royal’s future remains uncertain at this point, these developments certainly add an interesting twist to his potential transfer saga and could prove beneficial for Tottenham Hotspur in their summer transfer plans.
