Hollywood actors and Wrexham co-owners, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, are once again joining forces. This time, they're producing a new docuseries focusing on the Mexican top-flight soccer outfit Club Necaxa. The untitled bilingual series will follow Liga MX’s Necaxa in both Spanish and English.
The show will feature team co-owner and actress Eva Longoria as she aims to revive Necaxa’s fortunes alongside McElhenney and Reynolds. The production companies owned by Longoria, Reynolds, and McElhenney have been tasked with producing the series.
Disney-owned network FX has ordered the show along with streaming platform Disney+ Latin America. This collaboration is set to bring an exciting new perspective on sports docuseries.
Expanding global standing of Club Necaxa
Reynolds and McElhenney finalized their purchase of a minority stake in Necaxa in April 2021. They joined Longoria along with other investors such as retired German football players Mesut Ozil and Miami Dolphins ace Odell Beckham Jr. In a reciprocal deal, a five per cent stake in Wrexham was also reportedly sold to Necaxa’s ownership.
According to Variety reports, Ryan McElhenney, Rob Reynolds, alongside Longoria are looking forward to expanding Necaxa's global standing. Their goal is replicating the success of their previous venture - 'Welcome to Wrexham' docuseries.
Reynolds and McElhenney know the business
The Emmy Award-winning ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ show documents the Welsh club's fortunes since its acquisition by Reynolds and McElhenney in 2021. The third season was released recently in May while it has been renewed for a fourth season already which will follow the team’s 2024/25 campaign in English soccer’s third-tier League One, following a second successive promotion.
The upcoming docuseries on Club Necaxa is expected to provide an insightful and entertaining look into the world of Mexican top-flight football. With the star power of McElhenney, Reynolds, and Longoria behind it, sports fans and sports betting fans alike are eagerly anticipating its release.
