England head coach, Thomas Tuchel, has dismissed concerns about the state of the pitch at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Despite recent reports on its condition, he insists that it will not influence his team selection for the upcoming friendly match against New Zealand.
The Daily Mail reported that the playing surface at Raymond James Stadium - home to NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers - was a 'plug and play' pitch laid just a week ago. This type of pitch is typically used in stadiums with artificial surfaces but have been relaid with grass for World Cup matches.
There were concerns over disjointed parts of the turf as seen in pictures. However, travelling ground staff from the Football Association are liaising with venue officials to ensure optimal conditions. Despite these issues and with World Cup kick-off looming close, Tuchel remains unfazed. He confidently stated that these factors "will not affect my team selection". He further reassured fans saying he has "heard" it "will be OK".
Thomas Tuchel, England manager, said:
"I saw a photo from a journalist which made me a little bit worried and concerned, but let's decide when we are there. If there are any issues, we can always react to it. The plan is to play 45 minutes with two complete teams, to expose everyone to the same amount of minutes.
"Then we can continue for the next three days with the same load of training. That is the plan and at the moment we are sticking to it."
England's pre-World Cup camp
England are currently stationed in West Palm Beach, Florida for a pre-World Cup camp. They are scheduled to play New Zealand on Saturday (21:00 BST) as part of their warm-up games before heading into official World Cup action starting 11 June. This game against New Zealand is one of two warm-ups planned; Costa Rica being their next opponent on 10 June (21:00 BST).
On Friday’s training session which did not include Arsenal players Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka due to their involvement in Champions League final held on 30 May. Premier League players Josh King, Rio Ngumoha, Ethan Nwaneri Alex Scott and Jason Steele have been training with Tuchel's squad to boost numbers. Goalkeeper Dean Henderson also joined the squad following Crystal Palace's victory in the Conference League final.
Tuchel praised England captain Harry Kane, who appears to be in excellent condition. The 32-year-old striker scored an impressive 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern Munich this season. Tuchel believes that even the intense heat of the United States will not affect Kane's ability to lead England’s line-up. Despite concerns over pitch conditions and other external factors, Coach Thomas Tuchel remains focused on his team selection and preparation for the upcoming World Cup matches. His confidence sends a positive message to both sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike.
