Spurs are reportedly looking to send back Timo Werner to RB Leipzig

Tottenham Hotspur, the renowned Premier League club, is reportedly considering a move that could see one of their summer signings leave in the upcoming January transfer window. The player in question is none other than German forward Timo Werner.

The Lilywhites have had an inconsistent start to their season. Impressive victories over Manchester United, Everton and West Ham United have been overshadowed by disappointing losses against Arsenal, Brighton and Newcastle. As Ange Postecoglou's side prepares to face Crystal Palace on Sunday without captain Son Heung-min, questions are being raised about Werner's future at the club.

Tottenham unfazed by prospect of losing Werner

According to German outlets, Tottenham are open to letting Werner depart in January if RB Leipzig can find a suitable move for him. This suggests that Spurs are comfortable with not triggering his £10m release clause. This report contrasts with recent recent claim that regardless of circumstances ('come what may'), Werner would remain at Spurs for the rest of this season. However, Sport Bild also noted that if he hopes to rejoin the German national team setup - from which he has been absent since June 2023 - he needs to improve his form significantly.

Timo Werner was a key player during his first spell with RB Leipzig where he provided both goals and assists prolifically. His impressive performance led Chelsea FC to acquire him in summer 2020 after registering a combined total of 32 goals and 10 assists across Bundesliga and Champions League appearances during the previous season.

Despite struggling initially at Stamford Bridge in translating his Bundesliga success into Premier League performance, he played an instrumental role in Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2021 and helped them reach quarter-finals again next year.

Werner's current form at Spurs

However, Werner has found it challenging to make a significant impact at Tottenham this season. In ten appearances across all competitions, he has managed just one assist and has been largely relegated to the bench.

As Spurs celebrate recent victories over West Ham United and AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League fixtures, they are set to resume Premier League action against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. Whether or not Timo Werner will be part of their long-term plans remains uncertain.

While Tottenham Hotspur's decision about Timo Werner’s future is yet to be finalized, it is clear that his performance in the coming games could play a crucial role in determining his fate with the club.
