Saran Media Group, a leading Turkish media company, has secured a multi-year contract to broadcast the English Premier League (EPL) and the knockout FA Cup competition in Romania. The three-season deal will commence with the 2025-26 season and run through to 2027-28.
The agreement includes live matches, delayed broadcasts, highlights, and clips. This comprehensive coverage ensures that Romanian football fans will have access to all key moments of these prestigious competitions.
As part of this agreement, Saran Media will hold exclusive broadcast rights across all existing platforms. These include TV broadcasts as well as online and mobile streaming services.
Transition from Digi Sport to Saran Media
Saran is set to replace Digi Sport as the current Premier League matches rightsholder in Romania. Digi Sport is a Romanian pay-TV broadcaster that signed a three-year deal covering seasons from 2022-23 through 2024-25. They shared coverage with commercial network Look Sport.
In addition to securing EPL rights, Saran has also obtained exclusive rights for broadcasting the FA Cup and FA Community Shield in Romania starting this season until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.
Romanian representation in these tournaments comes via Tottenham Hotspur's Radu Dragusin - currently the only Romanian player featuring in England's top-flight league.
Expansion into other territories
Earlier this year, Saran Media announced two similar exclusive multi-year media rights deals covering both EPL and FA Cup matches across several territories including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan Belarus Georgia Kazakhstan Kyrgyzstan Moldova Tajikistan Turkmenistan Uzbekistan These agreements serve as an extension running from 2025-26 through 2027-28.
This follows an ongoing rights deal struck by Saran in August 2021 for the 2022-25 cycle. According to GlobalData Sport, the total value of this agreement is estimated at $21 million.
The acquisition of these rights by Saran Media marks a significant milestone in their expansion strategy. It also ensures that sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts in Romania and other territories will continue to enjoy comprehensive coverage of English football's most prestigious competitions over the next few years.
