Arsenal and Chelsea, London rivals, are closely monitoring Simons

RB Leipzig has set a new, lower asking price for their star player, Xavi Simons. This move could potentially pave the way for Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea to secure the services of the talented midfielder at a discounted rate.

The Netherlands international has expressed his desire to part ways with the Bundesliga club this summer. With just two years remaining on his contract and no prospect of an extension in sight, it seems increasingly likely that Simons will be departing from RB Leipzig.

The club's failure to qualify for European football next season has weakened their position considerably, making it difficult for them to retain their star player.

Interest from Premier League giants

London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly keeping a close eye on developments surrounding Simons. However, they are not alone in this pursuit as German champions Bayern Munich are also believed to be interested in acquiring him.

Bayern Munich recently missed out on Florian Wirtz who made a record-breaking move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool earlier this summer. This setback might intensify their efforts to secure Simon's signature. RB Leipzig had initially hoped to make substantial profit on the €50m (£41.8m) they spent earlier this year when signing Simons. However, according Fabrizio Romano, they have now lowered their expectations and would be willing let him go under €70m.

Whether Barcelona would re-enter the race with this reduced valuation remains uncertain. The Catalan giants have already seen one potential deal fall through during this transfer window when they failed in securing Nico Williams' signature due largely financial constraints.

Future prospects

According reports, despite interest from other clubs including Barcelona, Simons is keen on joining an English side as he believes it would best serve his development. The 22-year-old has already had spells with Paris Saint-Germain and PSV, in addition to his current stint at Leipzig.

Arsenal have so far made only one attacking signing this summer, with Noni Madueke completing his move from Chelsea last week. Their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze is still ongoing, while Real Madrid’s Rodrygo remains on their radar despite his high wage demands. Chelsea, on the other hand, have already signed two strikers - Joao Pedro and Liam Delap - but are still seeking further reinforcements.

Xavi Simons' potential departure from RB Leipzig could spark a bidding war among some of Europe's top clubs. With a lower asking price now set for the talented midfielder, it will be interesting to see where he ends up next season.
