Injury concerns threaten Luke Shaw's Euro dream at the moment

Despite lingering injury concerns, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is anticipated to be included in England’s pre-Euro 2024 training squad. This comes ahead of the FA Cup final on Saturday, where his participation remains doubtful.

Shaw's absence has significantly impacted Manchester United’s defence, leaving a noticeable void on the left-hand side. His last appearance was during a 2-1 victory against Luton Town back in February. Since then, he has been limited to just 15 appearances across all competitions this season. As it stands now, fans are not optimistic about seeing him return for the upcoming FA Cup final with current holders and fierce rivals Manchester City.

A persistent muscle injury has kept Shaw sidelined for most of the campaign, leading to speculation about his place in Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad.

Southgate keen on Shaw for left-back position

The Euro tournament is set to commence on June 14th with England’s first group-stage Euro fixture scheduled for June 16th against Serbia. Prior to that, the team will participate in two warm-up matches at the beginning of June against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland.

According to reports from The Standard, Southgate intends to give the 28-year-old an opportunity to prove his fitness before making any final decisions regarding player selection for Germany trip.

Assuming he passes these fitness tests successfully, there is a high likelihood that Luke Shaw will secure a spot based on his commendable performances over recent years. However, there are concerns that his ongoing injury issues could pose too much risk for inclusion.

This situation serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between talent and health in sports, especially when it comes to high-stakes tournaments like the Euros. For sports fans and betting enthusiasts alike, this development adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming tournament.
