The club is of the opinion that they mastered their transfer strategy a year ago when they heavily incorporated data analytics into their approach

Manchester United, one of the most renowned football clubs in the world, has a clear strategy for its upcoming transfer season. The club's chief executive, Omar Berrada, has emphasized that they will not be swayed from their plan or overpay in the transfer market this summer.

United are just recovering from the financial implications of spending vast sums on transfer fees and wages for players like Casemiro, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek. These experiences have shaped their current approach to transfers.

The club believes that they perfected their approach to transfers 12 months ago when they used data analytics extensively. This led them to quickly bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford early in the summer. They also signed striker Benjamin Sesko and goalkeeper Senne Lammens at the end of the window. These four players made a significant positive impact as United finished third in Premier League last season and qualified for Champions League after three years.

Manchester United chief, Omar Berrada, said:

"The template for what we did last summer will be replicated. You never know how you will come out of a window. You have to be really prepared, you have to have a clear plan, you have to know what positions you want to strengthen and you also have to be prepared for any eventuality.

"There could be exits you weren't expecting or opportunities that weren't there at the beginning of the window. We have to be agile and flexible. We have a clear plan. [Director of football] Jason Wilcox and his team are well set up to execute that plan. What we saw last season is a good way forward for us.

"We want a mix of experience and youth. A mix of players who have demonstrated they can perform in the Premier League and players that are doing very well outside the Premier League. Whatever decisions we take will not just be for the short term but the long term."

Upcoming transfers

Old Trafford chiefs are preparing for Brazilian midfielder Ederson's arrival next month after agreeing on a £35m deal with Serie A club Atalanta. The 26-year-old is expected to undergo his medical shortly before pre-season training begins.

United are also looking forward to bringing at least one or two more central midfielders into their squad. They have shown strong interest in West Ham's £80m-rated Mateus Fernandes. In addition, they want striker back-up for Sesko and potentially a left-sided player who can compete with Luke Shaw at full-back since Patrick Dorgu is viewed as more of an attacking player by head coach Michael Carrick. In addition to Berrada, director of recruitment Christopher Vivell and director of negotiations Matt Hargreaves will play significant roles in the transfer process.

Club sources have stressed that they will not overpay for players. This is evident from their decision to back away from paying £120m for Nottingham Forest and England midfielder Elliot Anderson. Manchester United's transfer strategy is clear: they are focused on bringing in players who can make a positive impact without breaking the bank. This approach reflects a balance between financial prudence and competitive ambition, which should serve them well in the upcoming season.
