LaLiga intends to provisionally award these rights around July 22nd and finalize a binding agreement soon after

Spanish men's top-tier soccer league, LaLiga, has initiated media rights tender processes in three central European territories. This move could potentially cover a five-year cycle and is aimed at expanding the reach of the popular football league.

LaLiga has issued two requests for offers. One covers broadcast rights in Romania while the other caters to rights in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. These processes can span up to five seasons, from 2026-27 potentially until the end of 2030-31.

The tenders were launched on June 17 and encompass all LaLiga games each season. The selected partner will be required to commit to broadcasting at least three out of ten games each matchday. Additionally, all matches from the second-tier Segunda Division and every single promotion playoff encounter from that league are included. These rights are being offered exclusively and may be transmitted either via pay television or free-to-air TV.

Submission details

Interested bidders must submit relevant documentation and forms by midday (Central European Time) on July 15th at audiovisualrights@laliga.es address. LaLiga plans to make a provisional award for these rights around July 22nd with an aim to sign a binding agreement shortly after that date. Queries about this tender process can be submitted until July 1st.

In previous years, action from LaLiga was shown in Romania by Digi Sport while Nova Sports covered broadcasts across Czech Republic and Slovakia. However, broadcasters have not yet been secured for these markets for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

The list of players hailing from these countries attached with LaLiga clubs includes Espanyol's Alex Kral, Mallorca's Martin Valjent, and Andrei Rațiu for Rayo Vallecano. Their presence in the league could potentially boost viewership in these regions.

Recent media rights activity

In recent LaLiga media rights activities, global sports streaming service DAZN extended existing agreements in Belgium, Germany, and Austria last month and added Switzerland as a new market.

Domestically, most of the LaLiga action next season will be broadcast live by a combination of DAZN and Movistar through deals that were effective from 2022-23 and run through the 2026-27 season.

This expansion into Central Europe is an exciting development for sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike. It not only broadens the reach of LaLiga but also provides more opportunities for fans to engage with their favorite teams and players.
