Osborne promoted to new role after previously serving as executive producer for UK subscription television giant

Having already played a pivotal role in championing women’s sport on Sky Sports, Jo Osborne has been appointed as the broadcaster’s first head of women’s sport in a landmark move for the industry.

Osborne has spent 21 years at the Comcast-owned broadcaster and was handed the job of executive producer in 2021, but it didn’t take her long to earn another promotion.

Jonathan Licht, Sky Sports managing director, said:

“At Sky Sports, we are proud of our women’s sport coverage and strong portfolio of rights. We want to grow that investment with a clear strategy that helps tell our story and make Sky Sports famous for being the home of women’s sport.”

Osborne added:

“I’m delighted to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time for women’s sport. I look forward to working with my colleagues across the business and our partners to grow and champion our women’s sport rights and bring this exciting content to an even wider audience.”

Sky has always been at the forefront of women’s sport in the UK, but the broadcaster has ramped up its coverage in recent years, featuring a host of top female football pundits and world-class analysts.

The Women’s Super League – England’s top-flight football division – is a mainstay on the channel, while women’s cricket, golf, netball, tennis and other sports continue to be given their fair share of airtime on Sky.

It is believed that Osborne’s appointment as head of women’s sport will only enhance Sky’s coverage, as the former executive producer has already laid the foundations for success.
