Manchester United, one of the most celebrated football clubs in the Premier League, recently suffered a humiliating 3-1 defeat against Brighton. This loss has not only left them in an unenviable 13th position in the Premier League table but also made them the target of some light-hearted mockery from Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.
The match held at Old Trafford saw Brighton secure a decisive victory with goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, and Georginio Rutter. Despite Bruno Fernandes, United's captain, scoring from the penalty spot, it was not enough to turn around their fortunes.
This defeat leaves Manchester United just ten points above the relegation zone. It also casts a shadow over new boss Ruben Amorim's performance as he has managed to win only three out of his ten league games since taking charge.
Carragher pokes fun at Man Utd’s plight
Jamie Carragher couldn't resist making light of this situation. The former Liverpool defender retweeted a clip from a recent episode of 'The Overlap'. In this clip, Gary Neville is seen asking if Manchester United are "back" after they drew 2-2 with Liverpool and knocked Arsenal out of the FA Cup on penalties.
Carragher's response was swift and sarcastic: "Are Manchester United back part 342!" This comment immediately sent him and Arsenal legend Ian Wright into fits of laughter.
Historic low for United
United have now lost ten out of their 22 league games this season - marking their earliest hit into double figures for losses since the 1989-90 season. Acknowledging this dismal performance record under his leadership so far, Amorim admitted that his team might be considered as perhaps being among "the worst" in club history.
While the banter between football legends adds a dash of humor to the situation, it does little to alleviate the pressure on Manchester United and their new boss. The team's current performance is a far cry from its glorious past, and it remains to be seen how they will bounce back from this low point in their Premier League journey.
