England footballer Jack Grealish recently disclosed that he received a call from England manager, Thomas Tuchel, explaining his omission from the 24-member Three Lions squad for the upcoming international games against Wales and Latvia. This revelation comes after Grealish's impressive start at Everton following his loan move from Manchester City this summer.
Tuchel announced a 24-member England squad last Friday for their forthcoming international games. Notable inclusions were Marcus Rashford, Eberechi Eze, and Anthony Gordon. However, fans were left puzzled as big names like Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid and Manchester City loanee Jack Grealish were conspicuously absent.
The exclusion of these players sparked criticism among fans who questioned Tuchel's decision to overlook in-form stars such as Bellingham, Grealish, Phil Foden and Adam Wharton while including veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson.
Candid conversation with Tuchel
Grealish opened up about his conversation with Tuchel during an interview with Sky Sports after Everton's match against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Jack Grealish, Everton player, said:
"First of all, you want to play well for your club, because that’s what we do every week. But, obviously, you want to be in the England squad. But I do understand it. I spoke to the manager there, and I understand that there’s a lot of competition, especially in that left-wing spot at the moment.
"Rashy’s [Marcus Rashford] flying, Eze, Anthony Gordon, you know, everyone’s doing so well. I can’t really complain, it is what it is. Hopefully, I can just keep performing and keep influencing games."
Stellar performance at Everton
Despite missing out on national team selection this time around, Grealish has been making waves at club level. His performance for Everton has been nothing short of remarkable since joining them on loan this summer.
In a recent Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace which saw Everton trailing behind initially due to Daniel Munoz’s first-half goal; it was Iliman Ndiaye who brought back hope before Grealish turned things around by scoring a decisive 93rd-minute winner leading to a 2-1 victory for Everton. With two goals and four assists from his first 10 matches for Everton, Grealish has proven to be a valuable asset for the club and was even awarded the Player of the Month award for August.
While Grealish's omission from England's squad may have disappointed many fans, his performance at Everton is a testament to his talent and potential. As he continues to shine on the field, it will be interesting to see how Tuchel's selection strategy evolves in future games.
