Inter Milan have announced the re-signing of 20-year-old Serbian midfielder, Aleksandar Stankovic, on a five-year contract. The young player is the son of former Inter Milan star Dejan Stanković, who was part of the team that clinched victories in the Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup in 2010.
Aleksandar is following in his father's footsteps at Inter. Dejan Stanković spent nearly a decade with the club and played under José Mourinho during their triumphant season in 2010. Current Inter coach Cristian Chivu also shared this victorious journey.
Aleksandar began his football career progressing through youth ranks at Inter but never made a senior appearance for them before being loaned to Swiss Super League club Luzern in 2024. He then signed for Club Brugge on a long-term deal for the following season. However, seizing its first opportunity, Inter exercised its buyback clause to bring back Aleksandar from Club Brugge. This move reportedly cost them around 23 million euros (26.8 million dollars) as per their agreement with Brugge back in 2026.
Impressive performance at Club Brugge
During his stint with Club Brugge, Aleksandar proved himself as an invaluable asset to the team. As a defensive midfielder, he was consistently present throughout last season and contributed nine goals and five assists across all competitions.
His impressive performance didn't go unnoticed as he bagged Belgian league’s young player of the year award - further testament to his growing prowess on field. Apart from making waves at club level football, Aleksandar has also represented Serbia internationally eight times so far scoring one goal.
Inter Milan's decision to bring back Aleksandar Stankovic is a strategic move that not only strengthens their midfield but also brings back a legacy associated with the club through his father, Dejan Stanković. Fans of Inter Milan and sports betting enthusiasts will be keenly watching how this young talent shapes up in the coming seasons under the guidance of coach Cristian Chivu.
