Reports from The Athletic suggest that Maguire is set to appear on Netflix's 'The Rest is Football' show this summer

Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire, has reportedly secured a new role in the upcoming World Cup after being controversially left out of the England squad by Thomas Tuchel. Despite his significant contributions to United's successful campaign and his integral role in England’s recent international tournaments, Maguire was overlooked for Dan Burn and Jarell Quansah.

The 33-year-old is among several high-profile players who were surprisingly excluded from the England squad for the North American tournament. This decision came as a shock to many sports fans considering that alongside Luke Shaw, another snubbed player from Manchester United, Maguire played a pivotal role in turning around United’s form under Michael Carrick to finish 3rd in the Premier League table.

Despite his impressive performance during the second half of the campaign and being an essential part of England’s deep runs in recent international tournaments, Tuchel decided to leave him at home.

New opportunity

However, all is not lost for Maguire. According to reports by The Athletic, he will likely feature on Netflix’s ‘The Rest is Football’ show this summer. This new program will transform the popular podcast into a TV format with Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards set as presenters alongside special guests.

Maguire has earned 66 caps for England but his World Cup snub could potentially mark an end to his international career. It seems unlikely that Tuchel would recall him back into action after failing to acknowledge his strong performances during previous campaigns. Having played 28 times for England at major tournaments before now, this year's World Cup experience will be completely different for Maguire. Instead of playing on-field roles like he used to do before now; he'll be taking up off-field roles which are equally important and influential.

While the decision to exclude Maguire from the England squad has been met with controversy, it's clear that he still has a significant role to play in this year's World Cup. His new position on Netflix’s ‘The Rest is Football’ show will provide him with an opportunity to contribute his insights and experiences, making the tournament more engaging for sports fans and sports betting fans alike.
