The Liverpool star was seen limping off the field in last AFCON match

Liverpool FC and its fans are anxiously awaiting updates on the fitness of star player, Mohamed Salah, following his injury during Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Ghana.

Salah, 31, was forced to leave the field just before half-time during a 2-2 draw with Ghana in their AFCON Group B match. This occurred as Egypt was striving to avoid defeat and keep their hopes alive for progressing into the knockout stages after securing a point against Mozambique in their group opener.

The Liverpool forward had been leading an Egyptian counter when he suddenly pulled up. As play continued around him, Salah was seen down on his haunches before quickly passing over the armband to Ahmed Hegazi.

Rui Vitoria is hopeful of Salah’s availability going forward

Egypt manager Rui Vitoria has provided some reassurance by stating that he doesn't believe Salah's injury is 'dangerous'. However, he also conceded that it is too early to accurately determine the extent of the problem.

Egypt manager, Rui Vitoria, said:

"I hope not (a big problem). We don’t know yet what the problem is. I hope it’s not a big problem but it was a problem in the first-half,"

"It was difficult timing for us because in the second half, we could only make two substitutions. But now, I don't know. It's early to see something, I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see if Salah recovers."

Vitoria’s team will face Cape Verde in their final group match as they aim for progression into further rounds. Whether or not Salah will be fit enough to participate remains uncertain at this stage.

Salah's injury will affect Liverpool’s Premier League dreams as well

Liverpool FC fans will be keeping a close eye on developments regarding their star forward who has already missed victories over Arsenal and Fulham due to his AFCON commitments. Depending on how far Egypt advances in the tournament - which concludes on February 10 - Salah could potentially miss another five games even if he recovers from his current injury promptly.

In other Group B news, Cape Verde aims to extend its lead at top of the group with a win over Mozambique this Friday. Currently, Egypt holds two points from two games while Ghana and Mozambique each have one point.

This situation leaves sports fans and sports betting enthusiasts in suspense as they await further updates on Salah's condition and its potential impact on both the AFCON tournament and Liverpool FC's upcoming matches.
