Fans in the Asian country will now be able to watch every game from the German top flight via live stream

Football fans in South Korea have a reason to celebrate as local streaming platform Coupang Play has secured exclusive rights to broadcast the German top-tier football league, Bundesliga.

This move signifies a significant milestone in bringing international sports closer to South Korean fans.

The agreement between Coupang Play and the Bundesliga will enable the streaming platform to offer exclusive coverage of all games from both the Bundesliga and its second division, Bundesliga 2.

In addition, fans can look forward to watching the German Supercup and relegation play-off matches.

Bundesliga International Chief Marketing Officer, Peer Naubert, commented:

“This strategic partnership goes way beyond the broadcast agreement. This is an opportunity to highlight the best of the Bundesliga with a partner that shares our ambitious and exciting vision.”

“Over the last four decades, the Bundesliga has been privileged to have some of the best Korean players. We are excited to support the identification and development of future generations of Korean stars, and we believe that Coupang Play is the ideal partner to embark on that journey with.”

This comprehensive package ensures that South Korean viewers will not miss out on any action from one of Europe's most competitive footballing nations.

Coupang Play to bring show five Bundesliga matches simultaneously

Coupang Play is set to air the 'Goal Arena' TV package where action from five matches airs simultaneously every Saturday night. This feature allows viewers an immersive experience as they can watch multiple games at once.

Moreover, over-the-top (OTT) subscribers will gain access to the league’s 'Interactive Feed'.

This feature provides an interactive viewing experience that goes beyond traditional broadcasting by offering additional content such as player statistics and real-time match updates.

Coupang Play looking to increase exposure to football in South Korea

In a bid to boost football growth in South Korea, Coupang Play along with Bundesliga International are planning several initiatives including marketing campaigns and knowledge exchanges focusing on technology innovation within sports broadcasting.

These initiatives aim to foster a deeper understanding of football among South Koreans while also promoting technological advancements in sports coverage.

Adding more excitement for local fans, it has been announced that teams from the German league will be invited to participate in the Coupang Play Series - a pre-season competition held annually in South Korea.

This participation not only brings international players closer home but also provides an opportunity for local teams to compete against some of the best football clubs in the world.
