The Blues will have a big headache to deal with defence against Liverpool

Chelsea FC has been dealt a significant blow with the news that Benoit Badiashile is set to miss several matches, including the highly anticipated Carabao Cup final against Liverpool. This setback comes as a result of a groin injury suffered by the French centre-back during their recent 3-1 FA Cup victory over Aston Villa.

Badiashile, who has been an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino's team since November, could be sidelined for up to a month. His absence disrupts the defensive pairing he had established with Axel Disasi after replacing captain Thiago Silva in Pochettino's side.

Levi Colwill is still doubtful for the Carabao Cup final clash

Despite this setback, Chelsea may see some reinforcement in defence. Levi Colwill is expected to return from his hamstring injury and play against Crystal Palace on Monday night. Having missed the last four games due to his injury, Colwill could potentially line-up alongside Disasi.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea manager, said:

"Badiashile we need to assess and wait for the scan. Levi Colwill, we need to wait for Sunday to see if he's available. Chalobah is doing well, he's training with the team. Groin. I hope it's not a big issue. We need to assess now and after we will know better."

In addition, Trevoh Chalobah is nearing readiness for training following his thigh injury recovery. However, Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Marc Cucurella remain out of action - posing further challenges for Pochettino’s defensive strategy.

Badiashile’s injury can have major impact on Chelsea’s journey

Chelsea will be keen on returning to winning ways in the Premier League following their FA Cup replay victory over Villa. Their recent form has seen them lose their last two top-flight matches against Liverpool and Wolves respectively; their most recent win being a 1-0 triumph over Fulham at Stamford Bridge.

The upcoming Carabao Cup final scheduled for next Sunday marks the third final between Chelsea and Liverpool in three seasons - with Liverpool having won on penalties during both previous encounters. As such, Chelsea will be eager to turn the tide in their favour despite the injury setbacks.

While Badiashile's injury is a significant blow for Chelsea ahead of their Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, potential returns from Colwill and Chalobah could provide some much-needed reinforcement. The team will undoubtedly face challenges but remains hopeful of regaining momentum in the Premier League fixtures and securing a victory in the upcoming final.
