Chelsea Football Club is reportedly planning to offload strikers Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja this summer, with the club willing to accept reduced transfer fees in a bid to expedite their departure.
Neither Chelsea striker appears to have a future at Stamford Bridge. Despite his potential, Broja has struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team over the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Lukaku's second stint with the club has been marked by controversy and underperformance.
Lukaku returned to Chelsea in 2021 after an £97.5m transfer from Inter Milan. However, his performance since then has been less than stellar for the London-based club.
Antonio Conte eye reunion with Lukaku
In his first season back with Chelsea after leaving in 2014, Lukaku managed only eight Premier League goals. Following disagreements with management, he spent subsequent seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma.
Despite still having two years left on his contract signed in 2021, Chelsea is aware that they are unlikely to recoup their initial investment on him. The club is now asking any interested parties to meet a £38m release clause in his contract.
During his loan spell at Roma, Lukaku scored an impressive 21 goals and has since been linked with Napoli where Antonio Conte - former Inter manager - is expected take charge soon.
However, whether Napoli will be able or willing to raise £38m for him remains uncertain. Saudi Arabia clubs also emerge as another potential destination where Chelsea could find a bidder for him.
Nightmare continues for Broja
As recently as January this year, Chelsea was asking around £50m for Armando Broja but that price tag has now dropped significantly following an unsuccessful loan stint at Fulham FC where he failed make any significant impact.
The Albanian international made a short trip across west London in January but failed to make an impact, making just eight appearances and scoring no goals. He is now back at Stamford Bridge but is available for transfer, with bids of around £25m likely to be accepted for the 22-year-old.
Monaco have shown interest in signing Broja, according to BBC reports. There's also further interest from other European clubs, although a future in the Premier League seems unlikely given his recent performance.
Chelsea's decision to slash asking prices for Lukaku and Broja indicates their eagerness to move on from these players. It remains to be seen where these two forwards will end up next season and whether they can revive their careers away from Stamford Bridge.
