The Newcastle striker picked William Saliba ahead of Virgil van Dijk as best defender

As the Premier League continues to showcase world-class talent, football fans and sports betting enthusiasts are always keen to hear insights from players themselves. Recently, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak shared his thoughts on who he believes is the best centre-back in the Premier League.

Liverpool and Arsenal, two of the Premier League’s top teams, have been particularly noted for their impressive defences. The Reds have conceded a mere six goals this season thanks to stellar performances by Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate. On the other hand, Arsenal boasts an exceptional centre-back pairing with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Last season saw Saliba and Gabriel lead Arsenal to claim one of the tightest defences in the league - conceding just 29 goals across 38 games.

Saliba takes the crown

In a recent interview with Viaplay Fotboll, Alexander Isak revealed his picks for the best centre-backs in England's top flight football league. According to him, Saliba and Gabriel form not only an excellent duo but also represent some of his toughest opponents on field.

When asked to rank these defensive powerhouses in order:

1. William Saliba
2. Gabriel Magalhaes
3. Virgil van Dijk

Isak chose William Saliba as his first choice followed by Gabriel Magalhaes at second place while placing Liverpool's Van Dijk at third position.

Foundation of victory

While strikers often steal most of our attention with their flashy skills and goal-scoring prowess, it is important not to overlook that solid defences are fundamental for winning titles or tournaments.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal can proudly claim they possess some of finest centre-back pairings not just within Premier League, but arguably in the world of football. In comparison, other top teams like Manchester City and Chelsea have each conceded 13 goals this season.

Although it's still early days in the league, Liverpool's impressive defensive record has undoubtedly contributed to their healthy lead at the summit. Isak’s insights provide a fascinating perspective on these defensive talents and will surely spark further debate among sports fans and betting enthusiasts alike.
