Liga Profesional de Fútbol is set to make its debut in South Africa

Argentina Football Distribution (AFD), a joint venture between Torneos and 1190 Sports agencies, has recently announced the extension of its international distribution agreements for Argentina's top-tier Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF). The new deals will see LPF matches broadcast in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Turkey.

In a significant move to expand the reach of Argentine soccer, AFD has secured multi-platform deals with international sports media agency Spring Media. This agreement will allow key LPF matches to be shown in South Africa via SportyTV for the first time. Additionally, it extends the league's presence in Nigeria and Ghana until the end of 2026. The deal includes, two live matches per round, Boca Juniors and River Plate games in both LPF and Copa de la Liga domestic cup competition. This expansion into African territories marks an important step towards increasing global viewership of Argentine football.

In Europe, AFD has renewed its partnership with Turkish broadcaster D-Smart until the end of 2026 season. This renewal includes four live matches per round featuring Boca Juniors and River Plate games in both league and cup competitions as well as seven Copa playoffs - totaling up to 171 matches.

AFD’s global reach

AFD holds exclusive international multi-platform broadcasting rights for Argentina's Professional Football League from 2021 through to 2032. Since its inception early last year by Torneos agency along with Global Sports Rights Management (GSRM), it has successfully secured broadcast deals for more than 185 territories worldwide.

The firm was established exclusively to manage global commercialization rights for LPF after securing an international media rights deal with Argentina's national federation, AFA. In 2021, GSRM merged with Chilean entity 1190 Sports to form a single firm serving the South American soccer market.

The expansion of LPF's broadcast rights into Africa and Turkey is a significant milestone for Argentine football. It not only increases the global visibility of the league but also provides sports fans in these regions with access to high-quality football content. As AFD continues to secure more international distribution agreements, it will be interesting to see how this impacts the popularity and growth of Argentine football worldwide.
