Leicester City vs Legia Warsaw Prediction

Published:
Prediction: 2-0
Tip: Result - Leicester | Half With More Goals - 2nd

Key Points:

1. All seven goals scored against Legia in the group stage have come in the second half.
2. Legia have lost eight of their last nine games in all competitions.
3. Leicester are unbeaten at home in the Europa League group stage so far.

Things are wide open in Europa League Group C with only two points separating top from bottom as Leicester City and Legia Warsaw head into this crucial match in Matchday Five. Brendan Rodgers' men will look to avenge their shock 1-0 defeat in Poland and put themselves in pole position to move into the next round.

Leicester come into this game in poor form and winless in four. It's been a tricky start to the season for The Foxes but their season is by no means unsalvageable. They have three very winnable fixtures coming up in the Premier League against Watford, Southampton and Aston Villa and will want to build confidence ahead of those crucial ties. Expect them to rotate their team slightly to rest players while still keeping a core of solid performers in the starting lineup.

Reigning Ekstraklasa Champions Legia Warsaw are enduring a historically bad start to their campaign. They sit second bottom of the table, in the relegation zone, and a whopping 23 points adrift of leaders Lech Poznan. To put things in perspective, Legia are not only the current title holders, but they've won seven of the last nine, but after a shambolic start to the season must now face the reality that instead of looking to retain their title, they will be battling to simply stay in the division.

The Poles come into this contest having lost eight of their last nine matches and with confidence at an all time low. For them to win this match would be nothing short of miraculous. Beating Leicester on home turf back in September was cause for jubilation but to do so now in the state they are in would be unbelievable.

We don't see that second miracle happening. We think the humbled Champions will sit deep and try to hold on for as long as they can before eventually succumbing to a barrage of pressure from the hosts. Following a fantastic start to their Europa League campaign in which they ground out 1-0 wins against Leicester and Spartak Moscow, Legia were hammered twice by Napoli. All seven of the goals scored in those two games came in the second half when they eventually buckled and caved in.

Leicester are unbeaten at home in the Europa League group stage and we expect that to continue. Look for Rodgers' men to win comfortably, by a two or more goal margin. We see those goals coming in the second half as the visitors will initially be tough to break down. We don't see Legia causing much danger in the Leicester box. For us, a 2-0 Leicester win makes the most sense.
