Prediction: 2-1
Tip: Result- Middlesbrough | Patrick McNair to get booked anytime
Key Points:
1. Middlesbrough has won all of their last five home games in the Championship.
2. Derby County has only one win in their last five away games.
3. Patrick McNair is second on the list for most yellow cards in the Championship this season.
Despite going through so many problems off the pitch, Derby County has shown incredible resilience on the pitch. The odds are still stacked against them, but Wayne Rooney is not yet to give up as his team continues to impress in the Championship. Despite getting a significant point deduction, Derby still remains in contention to avoid relegation. They will be looking to extend their good run of form on Saturday when they travel away to Middlesbrough.
After a productive December, Middlesbrough has stuttered during January. They remain in contention for playoff spots, but performances need to improve if they want to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Middlesbrough suffered a setback in the Championship after knocking out Manchester United of FA Cup last weekend. They come into the game against Derby County on the back of a 2-2 draw away at Queens Park Rangers. A victory against QPR would have ensured that Middlesbrough got back in the top six.
Meanwhile, Derby County had a very positive result in the midweek game. Wayne Rooney’s team smashed three goals past Hull City to get their second win in the last five games. They remain 18th in the points table, but they trail safety from four points. Other relegation battlers do have games in hand over Derby. However, positive results for Derby County will definitely put more pressure on them.
Middlesbrough is currently seventh in the points table, trailing sixth-placed Nottingham Forest due to an inferior goal difference. However, Chris Wilder’s team does have a game in hand over Forest. A consistent run of results in the remaining games will definitely make sure that Middlesbrough will qualify for play-offs.
Wilder’s team has lately experienced a minor dip in form, dropping points in two of their last five games. However, they have enjoyed a splendid record at home in the past few game weeks. We are backing Middlesbrough to take all three points on Saturday, but Derby will definitely make them work hard for this victory.
