Fresh from wrapping up the Championship title, Burnley will look to put further icing on the cake when they face Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday afternoon.
Vincent Kompany’s side have accumulated a whopping 95 points from 44 games this season, meaning they could surpass the 100-point milestone if they win their remaining two clashes.
Bristol City, meanwhile, have nothing left to play for after. Occupying 14th place in the table, the Robins find themselves 13 points clear of the relegation zone and nine points shy of the top six.
There is absolutely no denying that Burnley have been the best team in the Championship this season, as they have suffered a measly three defeats throughout the campaign, scoring 82 goals while conceding just 34.
The Clarets confirmed their inevitable title triumph with a 1-0 victory over arch-rivals Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Tuesday, with Manuel Benson netting a sublime curling strike to hand his team the win.
Benson has been one of many standout performers for Burnley this season, bagging 10 goals and three assists in the league. Southampton loanee Nathan Tella has also been immense, racking up 19 goals and five assists across all competitions.
On the flip side, Bristol City have experienced something of an indifferent season, with a record of 14 wins, 14 draws and 16 losses highlighting their inconsistency.
When the Robins chalked up a nine-game unbeaten streak between December and February, the play-offs looked like a genuine possibility, but a subsequent run of three wins, three draws and five defeats has killed their campaign.
Nahki Wells has featured in all but one of Bristol City’s Championship matches this term, notching 11 goals and six assists along the way. Plus, 19-year-old midfielder Alex Scott was recently named EFL Championship Young Player of the Year for his efforts.
Burnley claimed a 2-1 victory over Bristol City in the reverse fixture back in September, extending their winning streak against the Robins to six matches in all competitions.
When you look at the bigger picture, Bristol City have managed to win just two of their previous 12 meetings with Burnley, while the Clarets have claimed eight victories in this fixture since 2008.
The Robins are still without long-term absentees Rob Atkinson and Ayman Benarous as both players continue to recover from ACL injuries, while Tomas Kalas also remains sidelined due to a groin problem.
Burnley are currently without key duo Nathan Tella and Josh Brownhill, while Hjalmar Ekdal could miss the remainder of the season due to a leg injury. With six goals and eight assists to his name, Brownhill joined Tella in the Championship Team of the Season.
Expert Insight: With nothing left to play for this season, Bristol City are expected to take their foot off the gas. Given that Burnley are chasing the magical 100-point mark, the newly-crowned champions should produce a trademark performance at Ashton Gate.
