Atletico Madrid vs AC Milan Prediction
Tip: Both Teams To Score | Antoine Griezmann to score anytime
Key Points:
1. The reverse fixture between these two finished 2-1.
2. AC Milan have scored in all of their last six games in all competitions.
3. Antoine Griezmann has three goals from two UCL starts for Atletico this season.
This is a must win for both Atletico and Milan in the battle to advance in Europe this season. The visitors are bottom of the group on one point and are unlikely to make the top two positions but will probably need six points from their remaining two games if they hope to finish third and continue their European journey in the Europa League. Hosts Atletico are one point behind second placed Porto and will be looking for a win to boost their hopes of leapfrogging the Portuguese in Group B.
The last meeting between these two in Italy ended in a 2-1 away win for Diego Simeone's men and we expect them to repeat that exact scoreline on home turf tonight. They have far more experience in European competition than Milan in recent seasons, having reached the knockout stages of the Champions League in seven of their last eight campaigns, going on to win the Europa League in the one season they failed to do so. Milan, on the other hand, are playing in Europe's biggest competition for the first time since 2013-14 and have failed to go further than the last 16 in the Europa League during their absence.
We expect the canny Diego Simeone to tactically outwit his opposite number Stefano Pioli and come up with a game plan to secure all three points for his side. We do feel that Milan will get on the scoresheet as they've done in all of their last six games in all competitions, scoring twelve goals in the process. We just think Atletico will have a little too much for them and will narrowly win a hard fought, close contest.
Therefore, we see a 2-1 home win as a realistic shout, and we expect Antoine Griezmann to bag himself a goal, having scored three from the two starts he's had in the group stage so far, as he returns from the suspension he picked up against Liverpool.
