In a surprising turn of events, Manchester United legend and renowned sports pundit, Rio Ferdinand, has announced his departure from TNT Sports. The news was released via a statement on social media that left fans and followers in shock.

Ferdinand, 46, has been a prominent figure in the world of sports commentary since retiring from his illustrious playing career. His time on the field saw him win six Premier League titles with Manchester United. As an ex-England international player with 81 caps under his belt, he brought invaluable insights to his role as a pundit for BT Sports and TNT Sports.

His most recent work included coverage of last week's Europa League final between Tottenham and Man United. However, he will be stepping down after this weekend's Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

Parting on good terms

Despite the sudden announcement, Ferdinand assures fans that he is parting ways with TNT Sports on good terms. He also revealed what lies ahead for him post-TNT.

"The network continues to thrive with more rights than ever. I know I look forward to following its progress and the exciting future that lies ahead. Lastly I would like to thank my family and my management company New Era for their ongoing support. They have supported me to travel all over Europe following the best players and watching the best matches.
"For a football fan like me it's been a dream come true as I turn the page to the next chapter I carry with me countless memories. I’m excited about what the future holds, spending more time with my family focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests. I hope to stay connected with all of you in different capacities. Thank you once again for everything."

The former footballer confirmed that he would be focusing more on 'Rio Ferdinand Presents', his own channel dedicated to sports analysis and commentary. Additionally, he plans to devote more time towards other business interests outside of broadcasting. Ferdinand also expressed intentions to spend more quality time with family amidst managing these new ventures - something that had been challenging due to his hectic schedule at TNT Sports.

Health scare leads to reevaluation

Last month saw Ferdinand facing health concerns when he was hospitalised unexpectedly which led him missing out on covering the Champions League semi-final between PSG and Arsenal. This incident might have played a role in prompting this decision as well. He returned back to work at TNT shortly after but will officially end his tenure there following Saturday’s Champions League final.
