Maresca spoke about Carney Chukwuemeka and his future at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea Football Club, under the new leadership of manager Enzo Maresca, has been experiencing a resurgence in form. However, this revival has come with some tough decisions regarding the squad's composition. One such decision involves 22-year-old midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.

After a disappointing previous campaign, Chelsea is now witnessing an upswing in their performance. Their recent 4-2 victory in the Brighton and Hove Albion fixture stands as evidence of their newfound form. Key players like Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, and Jadon Sancho have been instrumental in leading this charge.

However, building an impeccable squad hasn't been without its challenges for Italian manager Maresca. He has had to let go of several key players such as Raheem Sterling and Conor Gallagher - a clear indication of a shift in the club’s direction.

The future of Carney Chukwuemeka at Stamford Bridge

In his quest to streamline the team further, Maresca recently made a bold claim about midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka who finds himself at crossroads with the club's future plans. Speaking after their win against Brighton and Hove Albion (h/t Goal), Maresca acknowledged that while Chukwuemeka is undeniably talented, he cannot be consolidated into the Chelsea squad due to its already high volume of players.

Enzo Maresca, Chelsea manager, said:

“I will say exactly the same thing I have said many times: Carney is a very good player, but for the amount of players we have, we decided at the beginning of the season it is probably better to leave and go somewhere, prove himself and playing 30 or 35 games than being here and play less games. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. He is our player. He had some minutes the other day, today he was not involved. Hopefully, we can give him more minutes.”

Chukwuemeka has only made one appearance for Chelsea this season during their EFL Cup clash against second-division side Barrow. Despite being linked with moves to Barcelona and AC Milan during the summer transfer window, no deal came through leaving him stranded at Stamford Bridge without much playing time.

A potential move away from Stamford Bridge?

It seems increasingly clear that there may not be a future for Chukwuemeka at Stamford Bridge under Maresca's management. For the sake of his development, it would be wise for him to seek opportunities elsewhere.

A move away from Chelsea could provide Chukwuemeka with regular playing time and the chance to unlock his potential. This seems unlikely in his current situation at Chelsea, where he is unable to secure a spot in the squad due to its high volume of players.

While Maresca's decision may seem harsh, it could potentially open up new avenues for Chukwuemeka's career growth. Only time will tell what lies ahead for this young midfielder.
