The Blues are reportedly looking to sign Jakub Kiwior to bolster their defence

Chelsea Football Club is reportedly eyeing a surprising move for Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior in the upcoming January transfer window. This unexpected interest comes amidst the Polish international's uncertain future at Arsenal.

Kiwior was expected to part ways with Arsenal following the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori. However, despite significant interest from Italian clubs such as Bologna, Inter Milan, Fiorentina, AC Milan and Napoli during the summer transfer window, the Gunners decided to retain him. A potential swap deal involving Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman was also speculated but did not materialize.

Despite remaining an integral part of the squad on paper, Kiwior has yet to make an appearance for Mikel Arteta’s side this season. He was notably absent from the club’s matchday squad in the Wolverhampton Wanderers match on opening day. As a result of his limited game time and exclusion from key matches, rumors about his departure continue to circulate.

Chelsea eyeing January move

According to reports, Chelsea are now considering a move for Kiwior in January 2025. The Blues' spending spree under Todd Boehly shows no signs of slowing down and they appear keen on signing Kiwior given his unsettled role at Arsenal.

Primarily featuring as a left-back since joining Premier League football, Kiwior could be seen as reinforcement for that position by Chelsea despite their recent acquisition of Renato Veiga.

Potential opening at Stamford Bridge

Ben Chilwell is expected to leave Stamford Bridge in 2025 if he fails to secure a move to Turkish League within days - this could potentially open up space for Kiwior. The former Spezia star has made 38 appearances since joining Arsenal in January 2023 and is also reportedly on the radar of Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite Arteta's efforts to convince Kiwior to stay at Arsenal this summer, the Polish international seems to be the Gunners’ fourth-choice left-back. Given these circumstances, an exit in 2025 appears increasingly likely.

The January transfer window could bring significant changes for both Chelsea and Arsenal. As Chelsea continues its spending spree, Arsenal may need to reconsider its strategy regarding Jakub Kiwior. With interest from multiple clubs and limited opportunities at his current club, a move away from Arsenal might be on the cards for Kiwior.
