The United legend also pushes Amad Diallo's case to start him against Leicester City

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has urged interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy to consider a main managerial role after his stint at Old Trafford. This comes after the club's recent win over PAOK in the Europa League campaign, where 22-year-old Amad shone with a match-winning double.

Amad was undoubtedly the star player on Thursday night as he scored twice against PAOK. This marked his first time scoring two goals in a senior United match and tripled his goal tally for the season. His performance has put him in contention to start the clash with Leicester City this Sunday.

Scholes is among those who have shown support for Amad's inclusion in the starting line-up. He believes that despite Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho having scored more goals this season, Amad’s display against PAOK should earn him a spot on Sunday’s team.

From interim boss to main manager?

Van Nistelrooy managed United for what could be his final time on Sunday as an interim boss. Despite being open to staying on as an assistant coach under Ruben Amorim, Scholes encourages him to consider taking up another job in management.

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, said:

“I think he should be a manager, he just looks like he is made to be a manager to me, I don't think he should be anybody's, not puppet, but I think he is better than an assistant manager.”

Scholes argues that Van Nistelrooy is too talented to remain an assistant coach. The Dutchman had previously overseen 50 matches as PSV Eindhoven manager before leaving due to lack of support from the board back in May 2023. He returned to Manchester United this summer as an assistant under Erik ten Hag but according Scholes, he risks wasting his talents if he doesn't pursue higher managerial roles.

As Manchester United continues its journey through the season, it will be interesting to see how these suggestions from Scholes play out. Will Amad secure a spot in the starting line-up against Leicester City? And will Van Nistelrooy heed Scholes' advice and consider a main managerial role? Only time will tell. For now, fans can only anticipate and hope for the best for their beloved club.
