Neville thinks Liverpool still can’t win league despite their dream start to new season

In the wake of significant victories by both Liverpool and Manchester City, former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has shared his insights on the ongoing Premier League title race. Despite Liverpool reclaiming the top spot, Neville remains steadfast in his views about their title chances.

Liverpool managed to secure a narrow 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday. The goals were scored by Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones, leading to a triumphant moment for Arne Slot's side. This victory has propelled them one point clear at the top of the league table after an almost flawless start under their new manager.

However, despite this success, Gary Neville remains unswayed in his prediction about Liverpool’s chances of securing the title in Slot’s debut campaign at Anfield.

Gary Neville, Manchester United legend, said:

"Would these two teams [at Anfield] win the title? I don't think so. What Liverpool are doing defensively at the moment is interesting. I'd like to assess it at Christmas. I still think they're short. Chelsea are short, they're not going to win the league. I think Arsenal are the only team that can take on City. But you can't afford to fall too many points behind."

Manchester City is not far behind their rivals. Pep Guardiola’s team also celebrated a slender win over Wolves at Molineux during the weekend with a late goal that sealed their victory. However, even with these close margins between two sides, Neville still holds onto his clear favourite for this season's title race.

Previous predictions from Gary Neville

This isn't the first time that Neville has downplayed Liverpool’s chances of winning under Slot's leadership. Earlier this season following another narrow win against Wolves by Reds', he expressed similar sentiments. Despite these predictions from Neville, both teams are gearing up to maintain momentum in their respective title races this coming weekend.

Gary Neville said:

“They're going to have a good season it looks like and maybe get Champions League football. I didn't feel like I was watching title winners [at Wolves], being honest with you. They're well below Arsenal and City but I don't think that's shocking anybody."

Pep Guardiola’s side will be facing off against struggling Southampton at Etihad Stadium while Liverpool will be pitted against potential rivals Arsenal at Emirates Stadium. These matches could potentially alter standings and further intensify competition among teams vying for the Premier League title. While opinions may vary regarding who will ultimately claim the Premier League title, one thing is certain: the race is far from over. As Liverpool and Manchester City continue to battle it out on the pitch, fans and sports betting enthusiasts alike will be eagerly watching every move.
