David Silva is arguably the greatest midfielder in the history of Manchester City

Manchester City recently welcomed back one of its most celebrated players, David Silva, ahead of their Premier League match against Wolves. The return sparked a humorous reaction from former teammate Micah Richards, who jokingly called out Silva for not informing him about his visit.

On Saturday night, the Etihad Stadium was buzzing with anticipation as Manchester City prepared to host Wolves. With Pep Guardiola's side trailing four points behind league leaders Arsenal but with two games in hand, the stakes were high.

Before kick-off, all eyes were on David Silva as he walked out to a capacity crowd at the Etihad. The 38-year-old received a warm reception from home fans in recognition of his decade-long stint with City from 2010-20. During this time, he scored 77 goals in 436 appearances and helped secure 14 major trophies.

Richards' tongue-in-cheek comment

As Sky Sports broadcasted images of Silva walking onto the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, host Kelly Cates asked Micah Richards - who had made 67 appearances alongside the former Manchester City player - to comment on Silva's legacy at the club. While praising his former teammate's contributions and achievements, Richards humorously lamented that Silva hadn't let him know about his visit to Manchester.

Micah Richards, Sky Sports pundit, said:

"What a legend, I think he came to City in 2010 and from the first training session you could just see how good he was, technically, vision, and what was best about him is he's just a nice guy. Fit in the dressing room perfectly.

"And what a player he was, up until [Kevin] De Bruyne was coming in, he [Silva] was my favourite. Him and Yaya Toure, City legends of the modern-day era.

"Everything about him was extraordinary, I'm so happy to see him back. He didn't give me a text, so I'll be texting him later on!"

David Silva's hunger didn’t stopped after Manchester City

After leaving Manchester City in 2020 following an illustrious career there spanning ten years, David Silva returned to Spain and signed up with La Liga club Real Sociedad. After three successful years there marked by consistent performances and leadership roles within the team structure, he retired from professional football last summer.

David Silva’s return added an extra layer of excitement and nostalgia to an already thrilling Premier League match-up. Micah Richards' light-hearted comment about Silva's surprise visit added a touch of humor to the occasion, reminding fans of the camaraderie and bonds formed between players during their time together at the club. The night was a testament to Silva's enduring legacy at Manchester City and his impact on both teammates and fans alike.
