Robbie Keane is tipped to join Spurs as assistant manager this summer

Following the recent departure of Chris Davies, Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager, to Birmingham City, speculation is rife about who will fill his shoes. The North London club is now actively seeking a new No. 2 to join Ange Postecoglou in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

Several names have been floated as potential replacements for Davies. Among them are Ange's former Celtic colleagues John Kennedy, Gavin Strachan, and Harry Kewell according to football.london. However, Irish media outlets have stirred up excitement by linking former Spurs striker Robbie Keane with a move back to his old club.

Keane recently left his post with Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv after leading them to league glory and into the last 16 of the Europa Conference League during his one-year tenure. Despite facing some scrutiny during this period, he fulfilled his commitments and led Maccabi Tel Aviv impressively. Keane holds an esteemed place among Spurs fans due to his impressive scoring record - he netted 122 goals across two spells at White Hart Lane and was part of their Carling Cup-winning team in 2008.

Keane began early in coaching

Interestingly enough, while still playing at Spurs, Keane began considering coaching as a career path when he started undertaking some of his coaching badges at just 28 alongside Ledley King and Michael Dawson (The Guardian).

Before taking on managerial duties at Maccabi Tel Aviv, he served as assistant manager with Republic of Ireland and Middlesborough. He also had a brief stint at Leeds United when Sam Allardyce took over as interim manager towards the end of Premier League season 2022/23.

Strong ties with Spurs

Keane has always maintained a strong relationship with Spurs, often seen at the stadium and training ground during Mauricio Pochettino's tenure. He even made an appearance in the first game at the new stadium for the Spurs Legends side.

While it remains uncertain whether there is any substance to these rumors, a move for Keane would undoubtedly be met with excitement among Spurs supporters. His return could also potentially aid in the development of his compatriot, Troy Parrott, who is currently in top form.

While several names are being speculated as potential replacements for Chris Davies, Robbie Keane's potential return to Tottenham Hotspur has sparked significant interest among fans and media alike. Only time will tell if this club legend will make his way back to North London.
