Inter Milan – AC Milan
Date: Saturday, 17 October 2020
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK time
Venue: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro), Milan
The Saturday match-up will be a first grandiose Italian derby of the 2020/21 Serie A season. Both teams have had a solid start to their campaigns so far, having dropped only two points combined and are currently comfortably positioned in the top five.
Based on the teams’ achievements and league positions of the last few seasons, Inter can be considered as slight favourites coming into this game. However, over the years, it has been proved many times that form goes out the window on derby day, which makes it an unpredictable encounter.
Recent form - Inter Milan
Antonio Conte’s team has started the 2020/21 Serie A season in good form, having won their first two matches against Fiorentina and Benevento which followed with a one-all draw away to Lazio.
Having accumulated seven points out of nine possible in the first three matches, Inter are currently fifth in the Serie A standings. Adding to their points tally, I Nerazzurri have been tremendous in front of goal so far with ten goals in three games (avg. 3.3 per game), which is the league’s second-best result.
However, Inter have not been as solid defensively as we might expect, having conceded five goals in their two opening matches of the campaign. After a one-all draw against Lazio, Inter currently hold a second-worst defensive record of the top ten teams in the Serie A (6 goals conceded) with only Benevento having conceded more (7 goals conceded) after three games.

Recent form – AC Milan
Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan have had a flying start to their 2020/21 Serie A campaign, having won all three opening matches and currently remaining only one of the two teams, together with Atalanta, who have maintained a 100% winning start to the new season.
Despite proving all the sceptics wrong, AC Milan are yet to face a top-ten side from last season. I Rossoneri took advantage of a favourable opening schedule, having beaten Bologna, Crotone and Spezia in their first three matches. Adding to their perfect winning start, AC Milan are also the only team left which is yet to concede a goal in this Serie A campaign.
However, it can be questioned whether AC Milan have been tremendously rock solid at the back or the teams they faced were wasteful in front of goal. So far this season, Pioli’s side has been averaging an 0.97 xGA (expected goals against) per game meaning that AC Milan should have conceded at least a single goal in every match they played.
